There are currently estimated to be over 4 million podcasts with over 500 million listeners. Approximately 44 % of those podcasts made 3 episodes or less. Of those less than 2 million podcasts, less than half made more than 10 episodes. Of the less than 1 million podcasts, less than 200k of those podcasts put out weekly episodes. For the RPGrinders, this is the 799th episode. Most podcasts don't last for a year but the Grinders are now going 15 years strong! This is the penultimate episode!
Being a weekly podcast gives the Grinders the ability to stay on top of the latest RPG news. Combine that with Eric's vast JRPG knowledge, the average listener is going to learn something new. This week's news is filled with release dates and one of the coolest game titles ever created: "Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii"! If the game is anything like the rest of the Yakuza series, the name won't be the only awesome thing about that game.
Not only do the Grinders give weekly news and reviews. It wouldn't be an episode of RPGrinders without a heavy dose of opinion. It does get much more opinionated than the Stinkos. This week's Stinkos are not going to be popular with conservatives as Break has multiple complaints about the party's behavior. Republicans in Ohio, Republicans in DC, Republicans in general, seem to be hated by Break. The Republicans might be a pain in Break's neck but nowhere near as painful of Frank's back issues.
Since the Grinders have been doing this for over 15 years, they are always looking for a new way to entertain themselves and their listeners. One of the latest ways to spice up the show is the creation of the Panic Room! The goal of the PR is to put you into an unpleasant situation and discuss how you would approach the danger. This week, the Grinders have gone to Hell and must battle Death to save their souls. Bill and Tedd beat Grim by playing old school board games. What game would play if you had only one chance to beat the immortal? Would you challenge him to Go Fish or Chess? Is it a wise idea to challenge an immortal to a word game like Scrabble? Can his skeleton body move fast enough to beat Frank at Hungry Hungry Hippo??
October will be here soon and with it comes the 800th episode of RPGrinders. A feat not achieved by the majority of podcasters! Most of them never even make it to 100. Will RPGrinders still be around 15 years from now for episode 1600? Hard to say but we aren't planning on stopping anytime soon!
If you are feeling truly lucky, challenge the Grim Reaper to a game of Operation.
